WALT: work like scientists, and work together, to solve problems of erosion.

During our 'Knowledge Synthesis' we are using the new information we have learned about what landforms are made of and how landforms show effects of erosion to come up with ideas about how we can solve the problems of the slip in the gorge.

Here are some of our ideas:

  • Make a sturdy tunnel to cover the Manawatu Gorge road and make it boulder proof
  • Piles of rocks, mud and soil
  • Plant vegetation to hold ground together
  • Concrete barriers
  • Install wire fences to stop the material falling
  • Don't use the gorge rode, use the Saddle Road
  • Use sand to build up the road

We are now going to test these by recreating the gorge in a stream tray. Things we will need to collect so that we can do this:

  • cardboard toilet rolls
  • piece of turf
  • a couple of bricks
  • wire
  • sand
